TBL Season 10: Some of the Same, Some New Stuff, & a Couple of Surprises

Last night the second episode of season 10 of The Biggest Loser proved to me that even though there were some changes to the game, the show itself is pretty much the same ol’ same ol’.
The Same-
Dangerous Stunts. As usual the show started off with inappropriate challenges for the severely obese, de-conditioned contestants. Since what doesn’t kill someone is fair game they continued to make the applicants run one mile to get on the show. Bob said we should all be able to run one mile. That’s true in a perfect world, because in a perfect world there wouldn’t be obesity. But that’s not reality, and that’s why there is this particular reality show. The reality is Cory had to be carted off on a gurney 20 yards from the finish line.
Plenty of vomit. It just wouldn’t be The Biggest Loser without seeing unfit people pushed beyond their limits during their first exercise session to the point nausea and emesis now would it? Folks this is not common or good. Don’t believe me? Go into a gym, health club, or fitness center and ask the staff where the puke can is kept. Let me know the response.
Poor exercise progression. If the two previous notes don’t clarify that, then Bob’s statement about how tough it is because Richard has been flat on his back for the past 45 minutes should. What he should have said was want to see how mismatched this workout is for the trainee, he’s needing medical attention right now. Nothing to be proud of on anyone’s part. ANYONE!
Jennie O. Don’t feel bad Butterball and Zacky Farms, you’re still just as good.
Tears. The majority of the applicants have emotional issues that need to be addressed and worked on with a mental health professional before, during and after working toward or reaching their physical goals. Lots were suffering from some sort of loss, which is now affecting them physically as much as mentally.
Treadmill spills. Ashley meet Tina. Her treadmill mishap will be replacing your treadmill fall, tumble and roll this season.
The New-
Snot. Yes, snot. As if puking into buckets was not reason enough to help anyone control their eating due to appetite loss the producers and editors caught the perfect angle of Brendan’s nasal passages draining during the workout. Thanks NBC.
Cybex. No sign for 24 hour fitness in sight. The gym was fully equipped with Cybex machines and banners hanging on the wall. But as if that was not enough Bob had to let the contestants know that Cybex made the Arc right after telling them to get on it. I guess during my next session I’ll be sure to tell my clients that Spri makes that exercise ball they’re about to use. Apparently knowing the name of the equipment manufacturer has a significant role in the workout.
New Attitudes- It seems as though the previously mild mannered Dr. H is getting fed up with informing the contestants about how unhealthy they’ve become. It also appears that a little of Jillian is rubbing off on Mister Harper too.
No Records Broken. This season did not break the record for the heaviest contestant. What? I’m sure there had to be someone to top Michael’s record of 526 pounds.
The Surprises-
At this point it takes quite a bit for this show to do something that can surprise me, but they did. They found not only a teacher of a wellness program that is morbidly obese, but they also found an applicant using the title of life coach. Wow!
