Recent research conducted on behalf of Bausch and Lomb shows a large percentage of people with astigmatism do not believe they can wear contact lenses. Technological advancements in the contact lens industry has made it possible for all kinds of different vision related issues to be corrected with contact lenses instead of sticking with eyeglasses.
“Astigmatism is an optical defect in which vision is blurred due to the inability of the optics of the eye to focus a point object into a sharp focused image on the retina.” Toric contacts are specifically made to correct astigmatism through the use of different powers and different curvature angles.
All of the major contact lens manufacturer’s have produced an astigmatic lens including Johnson & Johnson, Ciba Vision, and Bausch & Lomb. Each have their positive and negative points but through trial and error your eye doctor can easily find an astigmatic lens that works for you. Toric lenses come in all different styles including color, daily lenses, among numerous other options. Before you think you’re stuck with eyeglasses, speak with your doctor to see if you can be fit for toric contact lenses for astigmatism.
